The Cecil Davis Agriscience Outstanding Achievement Award – 2019

Ranger Drainage District established an award program in 2018 that honors the late District Manager, Mr. Cecil Davis. Mr. Davis had a heart for people, the young and the old and encouraged everyone to receive as much education as they could. He would always say “Learn all you can, nobody can take away what you have learned”!

The Board of Supervisors felt this award was a way to Honor Mr. Davis and at the same time support our local students.

The award is called “The Cecil Davis Agriscience Outstanding Achievement Award”. One student in the Agriscience Class at the Wedgefield K-8 School will be recognized annually. We work with the School Principal and Agriscience Teacher to choose the student most deserving.

District Supervisors Mr. Russ Beyersdorf, Mr. Mike Nolan, and District Manager Mrs. Dawn Mullins presented the Award to Layton Drinkwater at the Wedgefield K-8 School 2019 FFA Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 16th.

Principal, Natalie Stevens says “Layton Drinkwater is an 8th grade student with a passion for Agriscience. He has been an integral part of the Wedgefield School Agriscience and FFA program for 3 years. During this time he has taken on leadership roles, most recently serving as Chapter President. He has a passion for Agriscience even investigating ground water runoff for his Science Fair project. He competed in multiple career development events like Opening and Closing Ceremonies, took charge of the chicken coop and lay house construction to help bring our Rocket chickens to Wedgefield, led fundraising efforts for the chapter, and participated in the COLT Leadership Seminar. Layton is always encouraging other students to take on new challenges in the program and beyond. He is a true leader amongst his peers”

In addition to the award, Layton received an HP Laptop Computer and a check in the amount of $850.00 was presented to the Agriscience Department. This donation was made possible by the generosity of:
