August 2018 Ranger Drainage Update

Rainger Drainage District Logo

At the District office, we have received 30+ inches of rain from April to July. As you can imagine this amplifies the difficulty in performing our daily maintenance activities.

However, our field crews continue working diligently on regular maintenance activities. Mowing, swale cleaning, aquatic spraying etc. I have mentioned this before but feel it is important enough to mention again. Driveway culvert pipes are installed at each driveway in the District at the roadside swale. These pipes are CRUCIAL to the functionality of the stormwater system. We continue to find many areas where the grass is blocking the water from flowing through the driveway pipe. As a reminder, the maintenance activity of keeping debris removed or grass cut away from the pipe is the responsibility of each homeowner/landowner.

This also includes keeping the swale (ditch) area weed-whacked to eliminate as much vegetation as possible. As I drive the District there are numerous areas where homeowners are failing to maintain their swales. Failure to do so impacts the flow of water.

Another reminder, ALL swales (ditches) within the District are designed to hold water. If you have water in your swale, that is to be expected. Many areas within the District are FLAT…water will drain off slowly, it’s the way the system was designed. However, if the water is not moving at all that is different. If you have called with a concern about the water and upon inspection, it was determined there was an issue, then you have been placed on our list for swale work. We work diligently to schedule, prioritize and respond to the maintenance needs within the District. If you have been on the list for a while, we have not forgotten you and will get to you as soon as time permits.

As always, if you have any questions please call me at 407-568-5502 or stop by and see me at the District Office Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
