WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

Neighborhood Watch December/January 2019

The Wedgefield NHW is strictly watch and report. No pursuit, no patrol, no confrontation, just watch and report.

Since DECEMBER 16th, to the present date of JANUARY 10, 2019 based on Orange County Sheriff’s crime statistics and individual reports not yet reflected in the statistics there was 1 reported Commercial burglary on MAXIM PY in the 20900 block. There also was a residential burglary on ALBION in the 2200 block.

I also had a call regarding the theft of a residence’s entrance gates. Yes the actual removal of both sides of the metal driveway gates. This occurred on Starry in the 19400 block. Ranger Drainage also reported 5 metal Canal Gates missing as well.

Do you know what your license plate number is? Do you check it occasionally? I got a call from a resident that was woke up about 1:15 AM by OCSO regarding his plate being on a vehicle that was stolen several months ago on ABBY I think. Yes the thief’s swapped plates to make the theft harder to trace. The deputies returned the plate and even installed it for the owner.

Now that we see the weather alternating between warm and cold we will see an increased amount of after dark activity. Joggers and walkers are reminded to dress in light colored clothing and/or have some type of reflective clothing as part of their attire. Even though we have sidewalks people tend to use the streets and dark unlighted streets make

any trip hazardous for pedestrians as well as drivers. And the number of unlighted bicycles and golf carts being driven after dark make it a nightly miracle in Wedgefield, that a resident is not injured seriously or killed.

On a different note regarding auto burglaries if we remove pilfer able items from our vehicles and locking up or parking in our garage we remove the opportunity for crime. Something as simple as a Cloth Shopping Bag….and a habit – it goes like this “Make it a Habit!”-“Make it a Habit!” Put your Tablet, GPS, Phone, Your Lunch, CD’s, Laptop, money, Keys etc. Anything of value you use every day and might leave in your car. Put it all Into a Bag take it with you to Work. When you get home…take it inside with you.”

SPECIAL THANKS to Denise Grage our NHW Face Book Coordinator for keeping our NHW Face Book page neighborly and smooth running. Denise tells me we have over 1,724 NHW Face book members. Given that number of members watching and reporting may very well be the reason that reported crime stats for Wedgefield are as low as they are. A Well done to everyone involved with the NHW Program.

Now let us all be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
