WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

Neighborhood Watch March/April 2019

Each Month Neighborhood Watch Information will continue to be published in an ongoing effort to keep our community informed on crime watch matters.

The Wedgefield NHW is strictly watch and report. No pursuit, no patrol, no confrontation, just watch and report.

During the last half of MARCH to the present date of APRIL 10, 2019 based on Orange County Sheriff’s crime statistics and individual reports not yet reflected in the statistics there have been TWO RESIDENTIAL burglaries, one on BANCROFT in the 2700 block and one on ABALONE in the 2300 block; we also had ONE AUTO BURGLARY, on NETHERLAND in the 20400 block. I received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Estates that after calling OCSO it was determined to be a Private Investigator.  I received an email that listed several issues that are occurring on the end of Reynolds near Edgerton. Everything from trespassing on the canal to shooting into the canal and the woods across the canal (Hal Scott Preserve). I advised the sender that calls had to be made as the incidents are occurring to both OCSO and me.

On a different note, I allowed a post on the NHW FB Page that dealt with Wedgefield’s efforts for Revitalization because NHW certainly supports an orderly and well-maintained neighborhood as opposed to a crime-ridden dump. Unfortunately, the comments got out of hand with false information and it had to be taken down. Occasionally you will see posts that fall outside of the posting requirements but they are posts for items or events that support or affect NHW in some way.

With the advent of warmer weather, we will see an increase of door to door solicitation. Do remember we never open our doors unless we know who is there and if we do not want to do so we at least let them know we are home.  And if you are concerned you can yell, “HARRY GET THE GUN” even if HARRY does not live there while you call OCSO. Regarding the automobile burglaries that we have encountered, we need to do something as simple as using a Cloth Shopping Bag….and a habit. By removing pilferable items from our vehicles we remove the opportunity for Crime. By being lazy and complacent leaving items of value in the vehicle when we get to our destination be it home or work we create the opportunity For Crime.

SPECIAL THANKS to Denise Grage our NHW FaceBook Coordinator for keeping our NHW FaceBook page neighborly and smooth running. A Well done to everyone involved with the NHW Program.

Now let us “Make it a Habit” and to BE SURE TO LOCK UP, be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action. “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
