WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

Neighborhood Watch – April/May 2018

Since APRIL 4 to the present date of May 10, 2018, based on Orange County The Sheriff’s crime statistics and individual reports not yet reflected in the statistics there have been NO residential burglaries. I have had reports of thefts from 2 builder sites but they do not show up on OCSO’s web site.

On a good note after the spike of 6 residential burglaries ( March – April), I was informed by OCSO that 3 possibly 4 arrests were made as a result of video provided to OCSO by the victims and/or neighbors.

I received 2 calls about mail being taken from mailboxes that have the flag up. One call was shortly after a white Mercedes SUV was observed taking mail from the box. That caller was told by OCSO dispatch that there would not be a deputy sent as it is a postal problem. Given the fact that this is a crime of opportunity and OCSO will not respond it is recommended that any financial mailings be done by hand delivering to the post office.

Had a big to do on our NHW FaceBook Page over less than kind comments regarding Deputies handling a trespassing incident. Centered around improper NO TRESPASSING signs and lack of information of what if anything was taken.

We need to be more judicious in our discussions since there are several Deputies on the FaceBook Site. And the ones that are doing the job for us do not take kindly with statements that imply the fact that they are lazy or not doing the necessary job.

The fact that OCSO is over 150 deputies short explains a lot. This shortage in my mind is base on the level of pay and the working conditions experienced by the deputies. They are under tremendous pressure to not error. Hence the very cautious approach to our relatively minor crime issues.

On a different note Helen and I delivered over 200 HOA signs in a 9.5 hour tour of Wedgefield and were shocked with the condition of missing mail box numbers along with house numbers and several missing street signs. We as residents need to take pride in our subdivision and if we see signage missing call 311 on our cell or (407) 836 3111 on our land line. I would encourage everyone to take a look at their home and mail box from the street to see how law enforcement or medical responding would see it if needed.

Now let us all be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”

To report a crime in progress, fire or medical emergency Dial 911. The number to report suspicious activity or a crime committed Dial 407-836-HELP (4357).

After dialing the appropriate OCSO Number:

PLEASE THEN CALL PHIL UNSER at 407-679-6644 (24hrs). This helps Phil to keep an accounting of what is happening in our neighborhood and make sure that these reports stay accurate and up-to-date.
