WEDGEFIELD SCHOOL’S BRIGHT NEW STARS

Recently, I felt a spark of inspiration to inform my fellow students on the lives and experiences of some of Wedgefield School’s newest teachers. So I decided to do just that. This is a compilation of interviews that I did with a handful of teachers. I hope you take something away from this article and are able to better understand some of our amazing authority figures. New to the third-grade team is Mrs. Worth, 3rd-grade teacher, who has been teaching for a total of five years. She is loving Wedgefield so far and says that it has such a welcoming environment. Being her fifth year teaching, she has only taught first and third grade. She says they’re very different experiences, but she enjoys third grade more. She has four children, all girls, who are in 10th, 7th, 4th and 1st grades. Loving the beautiful school is Mrs. Rapisarda, Middle School Intensive Reading teacher. She loves that there are so many options for middle school students to choose from. This is her first year teaching middle school, but her favorite grade to teach is 2nd. This is her 10th year in OCPS. She also spent five years between teaching as a substitute and a private tutor. She has one son named Azlan in Mrs. O’Connell’s class, who is loving kindergarten. Cheerful Mrs. McCue, a 2nd-grade teacher, says she absolutely loves the school, and she says everyone is so kind and helpful. She says that she loves waking up and going to a place she loves and enjoys. She has taught many grade levels but 3rd is her favorite. She is currently teaching 2nd grade and said it may be her new favorite. She and her husband say maybe someday they will have kids of their own. Not new to the education field, Mrs. Rodriguez, 5th grade Math & Science teacher, loves the school and says it is
friendly and helpful. This is her 16th year teaching, and though she has taught 6-8th grade for most of her career, she is really liking 5th grade. She has two kids and a dog, a 13-year-old Schnoodle named Lola. Caleb, her son, is 16 and a sophomore at Hagerty High School. Her other son Connor is 18, and a senior at Hagerty. Animal lover Mr. Caswell, Media Specialist, has found this school to be an enjoyable school to work at. He says the students here are friendly, polite, and enjoy their school experience. He has mostly taught 1st and 2nd grades, which he loves. Being where he is in the media center, however, is his favorite. He loves books, enjoys watching students get excited over them, and likes seeing the creative projects they make from their understanding of each book they read. This is his 28th year teaching, and he spent 9 of those years in rural upstate New York, while the rest has been here in central Florida. He has three four-legged, furry children, or dogs. Bailie is a seven-year-old white miniature Schnauzer, Alexandros, (who he calls Xander) is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. His newest baby boy, Eirinn, is a 12-week old West Highland White Terrier. Obviously, they aren’t in school. Eirinn has visited Wedgefield a couple of times though and loves everyone he has met so far. A teacher of multiple grades, Mrs. Shrock, 4th-grade teacher, is loving Wedgefield School so far. She says that the entire faculty, along with the children are wonderful! She has taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 4th grade, and this is her 20th year teaching 4th, though she has been teaching 28 years total. She has one son named Derrick, who is 30 years old. He is an electrical engineer in Tampa that works on simulators for different aircraft.
