WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

Neighborhood Watch February/March 2019

Each Month Neighborhood Watch Information will continue to be published in an ongoing effort to keep our community informed on crime watch matters.

The Wedgefield NHW is strictly watch and report. No pursuit, no patrol, no confrontation, just watch and report.

During the last half of JANUARY to the present date of FEBRUARY 10, 2019 based on Orange County Sheriff’s crime statistics and individual reports not yet reflected in the statistics there has been 1 RESIDENTIAL burglary on BALLARD in the 3200 block; and 3 AUTO BURGLARIES, 1 on MARLIN in the 20300 block; 1 on ALBION in the 2100 block; and 1 on NETHERLAND in the 18500. I got a call from the owner of a JEEP CHEROKEE that was stolen on ABBY in the 2500 block. This vehicle was found in Palm Bay sometime later. I also got a call about a P/U tailgate being stolen on Maxim Pkwy in the 20300 block. Although reported to OCSO it did not appear on the web site.

To be exact the residential burglary, one of the auto burglaries and the theft of the tailgate did not show up on the OCSO web site. That is why it is so important that if you file a police report or call OCSO numbers you also need to call me at (407) 679 6644 so that we can have accurate crime reporting in Wedgefield.

Reminder – Neighborhood Watch members are not the police of the neighborhood but rather are the eyes and ears of Law Enforcement. Members are not traffic cops but as good neighbors do report the sightings of illegally operated vehicles on our roads, right of ways and canals. The number of unlicensed youths riding non-street legal vehicles on and off our roadways is an ongoing problem that places them and responsible adults at risk. The canals and roadways are off limits as well as the

golf course – to be exact the only place many of these vehicles can be operated legally is on private property – and then only with the permission of the owner. The liability aspect of underage vehicle operation should in and of itself cause parental concern.

Changing the subject how many times have you arrived home to find your garage door open? Or you got up in the morning and found your garage door had been open all night? If you have and are certain that you closed it before leaving or going to bed, I would ask did you see the door all the way down prior to leaving? Unless someone has your code the only reason it was open was a leaf blew through or animal walked through and broke the safety circuit light beam causing the door to go up as you were backing out of the driveway or closing the main house door.

SPECIAL THANKS to Denise Grage our NHW Face Book Coordinator for keeping our NHW FaceBook page neighborly and smooth running. Denise tells me we have over 1,724 NHW Face book members. Given that the number of members watching and reporting may very well be the reason that reported crime stats for Wedgefield are as low as they are. A Well done to everyone involved with the NHW Program.

Now let us all be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
