Wedgefield Neighborhood Watch Report – June 2016

Wedgefield NHW- No pursuit, No patrol, No confrontation, JUST WATCH and REPORT.

NeighborhoodWatchDuring the last half of APRIL to the present date of MAY 12, 2016 based on Orange County Sheriff’s crime statistics on OCSO web site we have had ONLY ONE reported crime. That was a vehicle stolen on Robinson in the 19500 Block. The golf cart stolen on Mosby was not listed although it was reported.

Before I discuss the calls I have gotten I am firmly convinced that not all reports are being recorded. We are not seeing the results of reported crimes on the OCSO web site. This could be an effort to keep crime stats down during an election year, making it imperative that I get a call after calling OCSO to report the crime. That is if we are going to have a true picture of our local crime.

Regarding the calls that I did get: I got two calls about reported auto burglaries one on BAKER in the 2200 Block and one on MAJESTIC in the 20500 BLOCK. In both cases a garage door opener was taken and in one case the garage was entered. I got one call regarding vandalism on ABALONE regarding the egging of a home and the cars in the driveway. I got one call regarding voyeurism and one call regarding suspected drug activity. In each case I referred the caller to the appropriate OCSO number for the deputies to handle.

Let’s face it we have over ONE THOUSAND residents on the Wedgefield NHW Face Book page WATCHING and REPORTING so there is little that goes on that someone does not see. Now there is a problem, actually two problems, FIRST the reporting of the observed incident and SECOND something being done about what has been reported. Quite frankly we must adhere to what has been promulgated for years and that is a call to OCSO on the appropriate number and then one to me. You are always encouraged to meet with the deputy to be sure that the incident is responded to and not forgotten because of other more pressing problems. Rest assured there is always another pressing problem somewhere in Orange County that can take precedence so we need to be sure the incident is responded to.

We do continue to have solicitor issues. I had three reports of AT&T solicitors being rude and in one case providing false information to a specialist that knows the business and the capabilities of the system. Remember, if they act suspiciously or you are concerned by their actions immediately call the non emergency number (407) 836-4357 or 911 depending on the issue and then me at (407) 679-6644. Remember we NEVER OPEN OUR DOOR to someone unless we know who it is and we want to talk with them. If we do not want to talk with them be sure they know someone is home by saying GO AWAY or HARRY GET YOUR GUN even if HARRY does not live with you.

Now let us all be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
