WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

WEDGEFIELD GREEN THUMB GARDEN CLUB

“Spring is bustin’ out all over” was the theme of the presentation of Orange County Extension Agent Ed Thralls. He wanted us to know that the Extension Agency will have a family oriented community event on March 24th, 2017.
Spring in our home landscape requires a pop of color! But first, prepare for a successful season: test your soil (IFAS Agents or Master Gardeners there at the agency will check it for you) and amend it accordingly.
Sprout your ideas on paper and select whether you are going to enhance your borders, accent your yard or set happy colors. Decide upon seeds or sprouted plants or even use pots as we have discussed before.
Here in Wedgefield, note these facts: we are in zone 9-B, our first frost is typically the first week in December, success of all plants depends on humidity (rain) and sunlight.

Agent Thralls gave us two great handouts, as well as, great information. Thanks to Ruth Oliver who invited him. Three lovely lady gardeners won door prizes: Connie, Lee and Lorelei. Ruth also brought a spring annual for everyone in attendance.
Next month, March 2nd, we are going on a field trip to our nearest local nursery, Sieffert Nursery located at 2416 South Tanner Road. We will meet in the parking lot of the Clubhouse at 10:45 a.m., leaving at 11:00 a.m. You may prefer to drive on your own. We are hoping that the owner, Mr. Dwayne Sieffert will give us a tour. Following the trip, we will go to lunch at “Cheddar’s”.
Starting in April, we plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Clubhouse. Please join us. Plan to enjoy lunch at the Clubhouse during our meeting.
