WEDGEFIELD COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER – SURVIVING IRMA

One thing that was seen everywhere in Wedgefield before, during and after Hurricane Irma was the willingness to help our neighbors. Here are a few examples of how special Wedgefield is and how lucky we are to live here!

Written by an awesome Wedgefield neighbor!
When I was asked to write a short article on how well Wedgefield residents came together during Irma, I didn’t have to look any further than my own street. We live in the 2300 block of Alabaster with only about 17 homes on our block. One of our neighbors is a fireman, (not from our firehouse) whose family got the ball rolling by getting as many phone numbers from our residents as possible and creating a text thread. About 75% of our street were involved We were able to share info before the storm like who has plywood, and afterward what the garbage pickup schedule was going to be, which stores were open again, etc. Neighbors gave us plywood and helped us put it up. All through the storm, we checked on each other. Afterwards, people were helping each other pick up debris and patch holes in homes. Our neighbor’s large storage shed flew over their home and landed in our front yard. Later, several of the guys all pitched in and tore it down and moved it out of the way. I’ve talked to so many neighbors throughout Wedgefield, and there are so many great stories of neighbors helping neighbors, we should all be so proud of our community.
