RANGER DRAINAGE NEWS

Summer days are here!! I hope that each of you enjoyed the District’s annual edition of “Water Matters” that went out in the Spring. If you did not receive a copy, we still have a few available at the District office or you can access it on our website at www.rangerdrainagedistrict.com.

Our crews continue working diligently on regular maintenance activities. Mowing,
swale cleaning, aquatic spraying of the canals/ponds etc.

There are a few items I would like to bring to your attention and ask that you stay mindful of.

Driveway pipes are installed at each driveway in the District at the roadside swale. These pipes are CRITICAL to the functionality of the storm water system. We continue to experience many local failures where grass or other obstacles are blocking water from flowing through the pipe and catch basins. As a reminder, the maintenance activity of keeping debris removed or grass cut from the pipe is the responsibility of each homeowner or landowner.

At the District office we received 15 ½ inches of rain in the month of June. I like to remind folks that all of the swales within the District are designed to hold water. If you have called with a concern about the water and upon inspection it was determined there was an issue, then you have been placed on our list for swale work. We covet your patience as our small crew works diligently to schedule, prioritize and respond to the maintenance needs within the District.

Trash dumping, (large and small items alike) are a problem. Stopping to pick up trash from the roadside swales is time consuming and takes away from our regular maintenance. Please help us by holding your trash until you get home or drive a few extra miles to dispose of the larger items at the landfill. If you see someone dumping please call the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 407-836-4357. It is helpful if you provide a license plate number and a picture if possible.
