New Cub Scout Pack 17 Recruitment – School Night Rally:

cub_scouts_pack_17In line with their motto, “Still serving America,” the local Legionnaires of American Legion Post 242 in Bithlo are engaging one of the organization’s four pillars – “Americanism” — in establishing a new Cub Scout unit in Wedgefield.

“Our goal is to give area youth the opportunity to develop character, learn skills, and develop individual responsibility that comes from the knowledge and experiences that the Cub Scouts have been providing for as long as The American Legion has been in existence,” said Terry Cooper, Post 242 Commander. “When The American Legion was formed in 1919, Scouting became one of the first programs adopted and supported by our founders – a tradition we are proud to continue today.”

A new-scout recruitment will be held at Wedgefield School, 3835 Bancroft Blvd, Orlando, Fla. on September 14 at 7 p.m. Along with new scouts, all members of the community interested in standing up this pack, volunteering time or providing resources are invited.

With nearly 2.4 million members nationwide, the American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans organization and one of the country’s largest sponsors of Scouting.  Its four pillars are a strong national defense, veterans’ affairs and rehabilitation, Americanism, and children/youth.
