Neighborhood Watch Report – June 2016

NeighborhoodWatchDuring the last half of MAY to the present date of JUNE 12, 2016 based on Orange County Sheriff’s crime statistics on OCSO web site we have had One Commercial Burglary on Newburg Street in the 18500 Block and One stolen vehicle on Melville in the 20300 Block. I am convinced that we had 3 residential burglaries in the estates that do not show up on OCSO web site. The calls for service were observed within the past 30 days, but no calls were received by me. Anyone having knowledge of these crimes please call me so they can be properly reported to our residents.

Before I discuss the calls I have gotten I am firmly convinced that not all reports are being recorded. We are not seeing the results of reported crimes on the OCSO web site. This could be an effort to keep crime stats down during an election year, making it imperative that I get a call after calling OCSO to report the crime. That is if we are going to have a true picture of our local crime.

I have received over 7 calls from the Estates area of Wedgefield regarding damaged mail boxes. Originally it was attributed to graduation parties but it has continued so we need to be aware of what is happening and make the necessary call to OCSO if we observe such activity.

Summer time is great and the activities are calling. Transportation for the youngsters often consists of the found bicycle that is ridden till arrival at the desired destination. Again it is left for the next opportunist to take it to another destination. The bike was initially carelessly left in the yard or was stolen from the once owner and that makes no difference. The now discarded bike is noticed by a responsible resident and a call to OCSO was made and the deputy tries to match the serial number with a reported theft of a bike. Had the owner noted the serial number and relayed it in the theft report the bike would come back. The serial number is located in one of the following places; underside of crank, head set label, rear stays, seat down tube next to crank, and top of the crank.

This year we will again celebrate NHW NIGHT OUT on August 2nd but this time it is to only recognize the day by turning on our lights and going next door to meet our neighbors. Our main celebration will be on the 4th of OCTOBER with ice cream in the park, balloons and face painting for the kids.

Now on a happy note EVELYN RODRIGUEZ PEREZ continues to keep our Wedgefield NHW FaceBook Page page neighborly and smooth running. Through her efforts we continue to add residents to the membership and we are now at 1093 at this moment. Keep up the good work Evelyn we thank you.

Now let us all be good neighbors and make the effort to be observant and take appropriate action “SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
