Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Being

One of the most important parts of living a happy and healthy life is learning to discipline ourselves. Without discipline we would not find our inner strength to control the monkey mind which is usually swinging us to our senses, to instant and unhealthy gratification. It is as if the mind is trying to please us, but sometimes in a very dangerous way. So the question is, how do we learn to follow the little voice inside guiding us toward healthy and happy living, how do we learn to discipline ourselves? How can we stop these fearful thoughts and visions in our head which hold us back from exercise, eating the right foods & exploring our inner nature? The answer is you cannot. You cannot stop the mind, it will always bubble up thoughts and impressions.
All past experiences through all of the five senses are imprinted already into the mind, these impressions have become memory. These memories bubble up, especially when encountering a similar experience. So as we live and experience our lives, we will always have to face these thoughts as we face our experiences. For example, if you are looking at a big chocolate cake in front of you, you are already tasting the past sensation through memory. This sensation will attract the taste buds, leading you to desire a piece of the chocolate cake. And there goes your diet, out of the window. Or fearful thoughts may arise, for example, you may want to go for a run in the park, but then a vision arises depicting how long and strenuous it felt the last time you went running, this signals the mind and body to become lazy. So now, how do we find the inner strength to overcome such strong impressions? We become aware. We become the observer of the mind and watch the thoughts instead of being the thoughts. We begin to choose which thoughts to follow and which thoughts not to follow. We begin to make healthy, conscious choices from within. From the soul center, we use the mind as a tool and not our master.
It is this understanding of the science of life which brings about true change in our lives, learning day by day the inner workings of our nature and applying mindful choices. By making time in our fast and busy days to slow down and honor ourselves, we can achieve peace and freedom.
