Green Thumb Garden Club – September 2016

green_thumb_garden_club“Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme”  was the subject of our August meeting of The Green Thumb Garden Club in Wedgefield: presented by Linda Aribico and Master Gardener, Connie Shepherd.

We learned about mints, lemon grass, cilantro and many others. Most herbs grow best in Wedgefield in cooler weather.

One can make herb butter:  select your herb flavor and mix it with softened butter. Let this blend for an hour or so in your fridge. Delicious on vegetables, potatoes, steak, or fish.  Enjoy

Watermelon, feta cheese, and mint make a delightful salad;  as do cantaloupe, lime juice or lemon grass (which was also discussed) along with your favorite crumbled cheese.

This submission is written with acknowledgement to Simon and Garfunkel for popularizing the old English ballad, “Scarborough Fair”.

Join us ladies and gentlemen at 11:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Wedgefield Golf Club.  Adelaide Cantana and Shirley Hargan will present news about fall gardening in September and Master Gardener Carmen Scallon will discuss “Fung Shu” in October.
