October’s winner is Khaldoun and Yolanda Mamlouk, 20322 Ralston St.
The Yard of the Month Committee for October selected a beautiful yard in the Estates belonging to Wedgefield homeowners Khaldoun and Yolanda Mamlouk of 20322 Ralston. Khaldoun and Yolanda have been Wedgefield residents for 3 years.
They were very pleased that their yard was selected for Yard of the Month as they have been working hard on it, especially the gardens in front. Khaldoun was quick to admit that he did not know the names of all of the plants because Yolanda was selecting them. The first thing you notice as you approach their home is the beautiful wrought iron gates opening onto a curving driveway lined with Queen Palms. Each of these Queen Palms was surrounded with a planting of Heliconia in bloom for color. There were a large variety of other palms throughout the yard. A planting of bamboo along the fence line will add privacy to the yard as it continues to grow. Roses and Bougainvillea are blooming behind the fence. A charming and colorful planting of Coleus in the shape of two letters ‘Y’ and ‘K’ (their initials!) can also be seen as you go up the driveway on the right. There are several beautiful keystone benches for seating on the walkway leading up to the front door and another seating area is in the process of being installed on the left side of the driveway. The Mamlouk’s have other improvements planned for the yard and gardens and encouraged us to stop by in a few months to see the new additions to their landscape. The Wedgefield Garden Club would like to welcome them to the neighborhood and congratulate them on a job well done.
There were several beautiful yards in this area that deserve honorable mention: 19115 Sheldon has a very beautiful front yard with lovely landscaping including a rock waterfall and covered seating area; 19405 Seaview has a simple but beautiful front garden with purple, yellow and red flowers; 19437 Sheldon and 20551 Starry also have lovely gardens, with nicely landscaped and maintained yards.
