Green Thumb Garden Club – May 2017

The Mayflowers we learned about this month were tiny. Dulce Rodriguez demonstrated Fairy Gardens and Miniaturized Gardens. As usual, one begins with containers which need holes in the bottom or some way to water. Also, these May flowers all should have similar light needs.

Always begin with good, clean soil, (old containers may be used if cleaned), layer with gravel, then add the plants which suit your fairy fancy. Many regular sized plants may be used~think bonsai. Your plants and realia should be balanced in scale. Dulce suggested small tools such as crochet hooks and tweezers may be useful.

These wonderful tiny gardens are only limited by your imagination and the size of your pocket!

Door prizes were won by Janis Thaw, Anna Rodriguez, and Shirley Hagan. Many local craft stores, home supply stores and even Big Lots and Tractor Supply are good places to find miniatures to fit in your tiny garden.

Next month, we anticipate a presentation by Carmen Scanlon possibly about growing roses with a speaker from Lukas Gardens.
