This year’s Hurricane Expo was bigger and better than last year. The venue, the MAGIC Gym was larger and accommodated more vendors with information to share and handouts. Twelve members of the Wedgefield CERT handled the traffic control, parking, shuttle service for the elderly, handicapped and families with small children. There were thousands of attendees and numerous parking areas. A “Well Done” goes out to Victor Alzona, Linda Alberico, Antoinette Breazzano, Debbi Linn, Jean and Mark McHayle, Mike Nolan, Cliff Turk, Rebecca and Scott Wells, Phil and Helen Unser. They worked from 7:30 am until 1:15 pm.
This Hurricane season is predicted to be a busy one and everyone must plan ahead to be safe. Do you have a generator? If the power is off for days or a week, a generator will keep the refrigerator and or freezer running. Do you have fresh batteries for flashlights? While candles may be romantic, they can also be a safety hazard. Do you have bottled water on hand? Without power, neither well or city water will be available. Check your first aid kit. Could you handle minor injuries that you or members of your family may get? Do you have a “To GO” bag packed for the possibility of having to evacuate. If you have to evacuate, what do you do with the family pets? Most centers do not allow pets. Take the time to think now instead of waiting until the last moment.
