WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

CERT UPDATE – November 2016

cert_logoHurricane Matthew is now history and Wedgefield is back to normal but as the storm approached, the Wedgefield CERT was preparing for the worst. Three days before the anticipated “hit”, the Team Leaders were charging their two-way radios and the other members were packing their backpacks and preparing their homes. We were in communication with the Emergency Operations Center and being made aware of what they were doing and what they recommended we should do. Our 5 Hamm Operators (4 newly licensed) were standing by if needed. On Friday morning we knew that the storm had changed direction but were unsure how our community fared. With the curfew in place we had to wait until it was lifted to check for damage and destruction. Once legally free to drive, the four Team Leaders drove in their designated sections (North, South, East, & West) and reported that there was very little damage. At that point the “Step Down” was given and everyone could relax. A big “Thank you” goes out to all CERT members, volunteers willing to work for the good of the entire community.
