WELCOME TO WEDGEFIELD - A Deed Restricted Community

CERT Update – March/April 2017

Wedgefield’s CERT met in the Mansfield Park on March 25th for a “Meet & Greet. “We have three trained groups and need to get to know each other and train to work together in the event of a hurricane or other disasters. It was suggested that our team have photo identification badges so that we would have access should the community be in a lock down situation. This process will start on March 25th, thanks to the WHOA Webmaster, Diana Turk who has offered her services and her camera to take the teams pictures. CERT member Sonjia Kure will make the badges with some help from Evelyn Perez, the Vice President of the WHOA and a CERT member.

Last year the Wedgefield CERT members did such an outstanding job of traffic control at the annual Hurricane Expo that we have been asked to do it again at this years the event which will be held on June 3rd. The request from the Office of Emergency Management is for other teams to also work so that there are enough people to rotate, giving everyone a chance for breaks and a “cool down” inside.

Orange County Emergency Management will hold two CERT training sessions open to the public for Orange County residents on May 6th and 13th. If anyone is interested they need to contact Natalie Chavez, CERT Coordinator at (407) 836-9827 as there is limited seating. There is an Advance Training Session scheduled for CERT members on May 20th from 8:00 to 5:00. It will cover Communications and Traffic/Crowd Control. The training will take place at the EOC, 6590 Amory Ct., Winter Park, FL. 32792.
