CERT UPDATE – HURRICANE AWARENESS

On Thursday, May 11th, the U.S. Air Force flew two of their Hurricane Hunter aircraft into the Orlando Executive Airport. Orange County, the City of Orlando and the Office of Emergency Management held a “Hurricane Awareness” event and invited all the residents to attend and take a tour of the aircraft and meet with various vendors to learn about being prepared for a hurricane.

CERT teams were requested to volunteer to handle traffic control and parking. Thousands of residents attended. Four members of the Wedgefield CERT (Debbi Linn, Phil Unser & Helen Unser) worked all day directing traffic onto the airport grounds and parking areas. Well done team!

Hurricane season is less than four weeks away. Now is the time to start preparing for the possibility of one or more hurricanes to hit the state of Florida. As we know from Charlie, Frances, and Jean, just because we are in the middle of the state doesn’t mean that we don’t have to worry.
